Multi-unit ceramic bridge as a denture

Metal-free ceramic crowns and bridges

A crown protects a badly damaged tooth and restores its shape and chewing function. A bridge closes a gap and is supported by the neighbouring teeth. On request we produce both completely metal-free.

Ceramic impresses with its translucency, colour and structure. The result is barely distinguishable from natural teeth, making it the aesthetically most demanding alternative for a natural smile.

When is a crown right and when a bridge?

If the loss of substance is extensive, the tooth is crowned in order to restore its chewing function and shape. Gaps between teeth are closed for medical and aesthetic reasons, in order to harmonise the chewing forces in the mouth and to complete the row of teeth again.

If the neighbouring teeth have no larger fillings or damage, an implant is an alternative to a bridge - in this way the healthy tooth structure of the neighbouring teeth remains untouched. We will clarify together in a consultation which solution is right for you.

The key facts at a glance

  • A crown encases a badly damaged tooth and restores its shape and chewing function.
  • A bridge closes a gap and is supported by the neighbouring teeth.
  • On request, both are possible completely metal-free in ceramic.
  • If the neighbouring teeth are healthy and without large fillings, an implant is often the gentler solution instead of a bridge.
  • Gaps between teeth are closed not only for aesthetic reasons but also to harmonise the chewing forces in the dentition.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do you need a crown?
When so much tooth substance has been lost that a filling can no longer restore the tooth stably. The crown encases the tooth and restores its shape and chewing function.
What is the difference between a crown and a bridge?
A crown restores a single tooth that is still present. A bridge replaces a missing tooth and is attached to the neighbouring teeth for this purpose.
Bridge or implant – which is better?
That depends on the neighbouring teeth. If they are healthy and without large fillings, an implant is gentler because they do not have to be ground down. If they need treatment anyway, a bridge can make sense.
Are there crowns without a dark edge at the gum line?
Yes, all-ceramic crowns. The dark seam is caused by the metal framework of conventional crowns and does not occur with metal-free restorations.
